San Francisco prides itself on being an environmental leader. However, the city’s water utility, SFPUC, has a long history of fighting common-sense pollution controls and hoarding fresh water while rivers run dry.
Most recently, SFPUC used taxpayer dollars to weaken the Clean Water Act before the Supreme Court—part of the utility’s longstanding pattern of challenging pollution requirements instead of implementing them.
SFPUC has also refused to reduce San Francisco’s reliance on the Tuolumne River. This approach has decimated Chinook Salmon populations and contributed to the harmful algae blooms that thrive in low-flow conditions.
It’s time for SFPUC to reflect the values of the people of the San Francisco Bay Area. Send a letter to Mayor Lurie urging him to improve SFPUC!
